Your hunting trip in Namibia

Few countries bring wilderness and responsibility together like Namibia, a place where hunting still has its original purpose. At Okavandu you experience exactly that: guided, respectful, and in harmony with the land and its animals.

At Okavandu, hunting is part of how the farm runs, as a necessary part of our work as a game farm and not as an extra for tourists. Only through hunting can we keep the game population in balance and make sure enough grazing and water remain for all the animals. Guided by our experienced professional hunter (PH), Ernfried, you go real spot-and-stalk hunting, done responsibly and deeply rooted in the way our farm works.

Ernfried

professional hunter

  • Experienced professional hunter
  • Has lived at Okavandu for years
  • Knows the hunting area like the back of his hand
  • One of the San (Bushmen), with traditional tracking expertise
  • Reads from every track which animal passed here and when
Okavandu is a member of the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA).

Ernfried guides the hunts at Okavandu with the calm and precision that only come with years. As one of the San, he carries a tracking tradition that his culture has passed down for thousands of years, a skill that fascinates even scientists around the world. With him at your side, you're safe out there and also get to hunt the way people in Namibia have hunted for a long time.

Responsibility for the game population

Okavandu is a working game farm where we buy in game, breed, sell, and host hunting guests. How much we hunt depends solely on what our annual game count shows.

When there are too many animals of one species on the land, we reduce their numbers selectively, while we deliberately leave other species alone, for example when mostly mothers with young are on the move.

Full use of every animal

We process every animal harvested right here on the farm, in our own butchery. That way fresh, high-quality meat ends up in our kitchen and on our guests' plates. Our staff benefit too, because for them meat is one of the most important staple foods.

Selecting with good judgment

Ernfried decides with you on site which animal is right to take, depending on the species and the situation. Sometimes the focus is on a mature old male with a fine trophy, sometimes on a weaker animal that no longer does the population any good anyway. That's how we combine trophy quality with real care for the game population.

Back to your lodge

Whether you arrive with your family, travel with a group of hunters, or come on your own, our lodge is waiting for you right next door.

It's completely redesigned and furnished with a lot of love for detail. Everyone finds their own pace here, by the pool, on a game drive with binoculars and camera, or simply in the Lapa. In the evening, everyone sits down at the table together.
