Guest farm in Namibia, in the middle of the Erongo

Real farm life, right next to your lodge, in the middle of Namibia.

Okavandu is a guest farm in Namibia, in the Erongo Region, just under 6,000 hectares in size. We keep cattle, goats, sheep, and horses, look after the game population, and harvest the hay for the dry season ourselves. In the middle of these grounds lies our lodge, where you arrive and unwind. Your adventure starts here, whether on a game drive through our bushland or on a hunt, guided by our experienced team.

What our guest farm is about

Our lodge

Our lodge lies right on the farm grounds, with the rooms, the pool, and our Lapa as a cozy place to meet. This way you see the working farm up close without giving up any comfort.

Farm to table

Meat, eggs, fruit, and vegetables come straight from our farm, fresh and without long transport routes. What grows and thrives here often ends up in our kitchen the same day.

Livestock on the farm

Okavandu is a real guest farm where goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens are part of our everyday life. We keep them with great care and so create a real farm idyll in the middle of Namibia.

Responsibility for the people

In the Village, where our staff families live, we are building a better home piece by piece. You'll find out what is taking shape there from our foundation.

Facts about the farm

  • Cultivation

    200 ha of grass

We turned 200 hectares into grassland in two years, and the hay stays on the farm, ready in four hay barns as a reserve for dry years.

  • Livestock

    7 kinds of livestock

Cattle, goats, sheep, and chickens are part of our everyday life, along with horses, ducks, geese, and a few dairy cows for our own needs.

  • Infrastructure

    40 km of fence

A 40-kilometer game fence surrounds the entire farm, and solar pumps bring water from boreholes to concrete waterholes.

  • Wildlife

Game on 6,000 ha of land

We counted about 130 kudu at the last game count, and alongside them plenty of oryx, eland, springbok, zebras, and giraffes live here in the wild.

Where the farm lies

Okavandu lies near Wilhelmstal in the Erongo Region, right on the B2, about 1.5 hours from Windhoek and about 2 hours from Hosea Kutako International Airport. The mountains of the Erongo begin just behind the farm, in the middle of real Namibian open country. In the other direction, it's about 2.5 hours to the coast, which makes Okavandu a perfect stopover on your trip through Namibia.

The classic northern route starts in Windhoek and takes you via Okavandu to the coast at Swakopmund. From there it continues through Damaraland, with the Spitzkoppe and the rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, all the way to Etosha National Park, where elephants, lions, and giraffes gather at the waterholes. You drive back to Windhoek via Otjiwarongo. Okavandu is the ideal first night on this route, because after your flight you can arrive here at your own pace before the trip really begins.

The southern route also starts in Windhoek and takes you via Okavandu to Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. From there you continue to the red dunes of Sossusvlei, where you see Dune 45 and Deadvlei at sunrise, and, if you like, on to the Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world. You return to Windhoek via Mariental. Here too, Okavandu is a perfect first stop before you head on toward the coast and the desert.

Okavandu lies on the B2 between Karibib and Okahandja, northwest of Windhoek. To the north, the road runs via Okahandja, Otjiwarongo, and Outjo to Etosha. To the west, the B2 runs to the coast at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, then on via Solitaire and Sesriem to Sossusvlei.ETOSHANAMIBERONGODAMARALANDATLANTIKWindhoekFlughafenOkahandjaSwakopmundWalvis BayOtjiwarongoOutjoOkaukuejoTsumebOmaruruKaribibRehobothSolitaireSesriemSossusvleiSpitzkoppeUisTwyfelfonteinKamanjabOkavandu

Common questions about our guest farm

What a guest farm in Namibia is about

On a guest farm in Namibia, you are more than a visitor. You stay in the middle of a real, working farm. Okavandu is exactly that: a working farm with cattle, goats, sheep, and its own game population, on the same land as our lodge for guests.

On a guest farm like Okavandu, two sides always belong together. One is the farm itself, with pasture, waterholes, and the game population. The other is the lodge, with rooms, the Lapa, game drives, and the pool. Both run on the same land and at the same time, and it is exactly this combination of real farm life and a comfortable retreat that makes a guest farm in Namibia like Okavandu so special, authentic, and relaxed at once.

You stay with us either in the farmhouse, about 100 years old and completely redesigned, or in one of our new rooms right by the pool. On the farm tour, we'll gladly show you all of it in person.
